Get Started

I just put up a post on LinkedIn about this last night. My buddy, Dan Killian, reminded me that you just need to get started, you just need to prototype something today. He built his card game, pricetitution, by staying late at work, booking a conference room, and drafting it out using Post-It notes. He began immediately and prototyped a simply mock up.

As I walked my dog this morning, I was listening to the second installment of Hype Beast Radios’ Business of Hype Podcast with Jeffstaple interviewing Sean Wortherspoon. Near the end of the episode, Wortherspoon hit the nail in the head. ”Pick something that you want to be, tell the whole world that’s what you are, and never stop.” He goes on to explain that this is what everyone does. “You look at something that you are good at, and you decided that, ‘Okay, I am going to become the best at this.’ Whether you are or not, if you are telling people and you are coming off like you are the best at it, you ARE the best at it.”

I loved this idea. If you want to create something, or become more creative, just pick a path and start creating. You just have to get started and start putting in the work. By sharing your dreams with other people and telling your family and friends what you want to become, they start to see you in that light. The more you tell others, it reinforces this message internally. More importantly, start telling yourself what you want to become and start mapping out the steps to get there. The road is going to be long, but there is only one way to get there: get started today.

I encourage you to think about what you want to create and then start telling the world about it. I can’t wait to hear what you come up with and I cannot wait to hear what you create.
