Love Is Not a Drug or Behavior

Certain things light up our brain’s neurons like a Christmas tree: love, sex, food, drugs, gambling, traveling, exercising, and smoking…to name a few. This is why we’re so susceptible to addiction…

Where can I go ice skating?

It seems that ice skating has become more and more a part of Christmas festivities over the past few years with numerous venues putting in a rink for the festive period.

Personally I am useless at ice skating and avoid at all costs but if you fancy having a go either with or without the kids here are some great places to try:

Already open for this year’s season, the ice rink in the moat at The Tower of London has to be one of the most impressive locations! Book online for your 45 minute session and enjoy a warming drink or two in the cafe bar afterwards.

Somerset House has also already opened its ice rink for the season and it will be there until 14th January. The kids can learn on the ice with polar bear stabilisers and lessons are on offer too. Just for grown ups, Skate Lates sessions offer late night skating with specially curated music programmes, plus Fortnum and Mason will have a pop up shop on site if you want to check some present shopping off the list too!

Each year the wonderland fills Hyde Park with festive fun and they have the largest open air ice rink in the UK! Book your ice skating tickets and make a day of it and enjoy the rest of the attractions such as funfair rides, Bavarian village, Zippo’s circus and a Christmas market.

A beautiful location to skate in, the rink is already open this season and remains so until 7th January. For those who would rather spectate (like me!) there is a cafe bar and a fairground carousel to keep you occupied!

Van Hage is holding their ice skating event for the 10th year this year! The rink is indoors and a cafe is available for the non skaters. They have various sessions such as parent and toddler and special needs, check the website for times and availability of these. Check out the beautiful Christmas shop while you are there, the animal gardens, and if you visit at a weekend, the miniature steam train which my kids love!

The Lee Valley Christmas market is open each weekend from 25th November and this year will include an ice rink too. Combine a visit to the Bavarian style market with your skating for a fun packed afternoon out!

Opening on Saturday 25th November until Sunday 14th January, The Big Skate in Watford is back for another year with its open air ice rink! You’ll find a viewing area and a bar should you not wish to skate. Gade car park is the closest, crack on with the Christmas shopping at the Intu centre either before or after your skating session!

For year round skating, try Ally Pally! Check their website for opening times for public skating sessions or book a course of lessons if you have a budding Torvill or Dean in the house!

As ever, check each venue’s website for full details and opening times and I hope you enjoy getting your skates on!
