Its the most ridiculous time of the year. Lets forget about the climate for a month.
Well and can also be the most wonderful time. When most people are screaming of climate demise we some how justify the largest yearly clearcut in the spirit of celebration of peace on earth. Am I missing something here?
Add on top of that firing up lights (led’s are ok?) of every square inch of our abodes both inside and out. Using too much energy? Bah humbug!
What if we redesigned Christmas to be a celebration of un-consumerism?
In the early family years when my energy seemed boundless, I only bought live trees and then planted them after use. I felt this was such a sensible thing to do. The cost was similar and I learned how to not shock the trees being replanted in the cold. For lights we did buy more but only lit them when we could enjoy. Useful presents and gifts that we really needed not just for the sake of giving. Where has that gone?
We decided not to do traditional Christmas this year, the kids are gone and we have more than enough stuff. Is christmas for the kids? Does Greta celebrate with presents and lights? Our traditions can seem so out of place in the modern time.

Make a christmas tree out of your recycle material
Go back to glitter and have a single light shine up the tree
presents? why? give a hug, a kiss a dance, bake a cake. tell a joke.
Spread the word of a light happy holiday.
