The Rise of Green Bay

For “Rise of the Rest” standards, Green Bay is small. At 105,000 people, it is the smallest city the tour has traveled to to date. Research shows startup density and success are amplified in larger communities. Yet, Green Bay and the metro region made an excellent showing.

While the trip was about the startups of northeast Wisconsin, I couldn’t help but observe the additional state ties contained on the bus. We had plenty of transplants among the Rise of the Rest organizers and partners. Almost everyone had a story: they were raised in the region, graduated from a state school, or made a pilgrimage to Camp Randall. I kept thinking about the lost brain drain and how some of our brightest residents leave for the opportunities on the coast.
