You Think Your Life Is Tough?

One sure-fire way to change your perspective and your life

I have had some low moments in my life. I have been on the brink of being homeless and I have most definitely felt hopeless and had no clear direction.

The ideal plan we have for our lives is often interrupted by life itself.

Growing up in the US has given me opportunities that a majority of the world could only dream of.

I have traveled the world and seen many places that one can only imagine if they have never left the US. People in poverty are abundant and live lives that can only be referred to as hard.

They live in places where the streets are dirt, and at any moment the rains can turn that street into a river washing away your home and everything in it. They have four walls made with corrugated metal with roofs that are only a blue tarp found in the dumpster.

We have a homeless problem in the US, but there are at least places people can go to seek help. Usually, in the US, if you are willing to seek help, they are willing to give it. You get a chance.

What about those who don’t have a chance, don’t have anywhere to turn? They must look out for themselves and their families. Each day is a struggle. Get sick, and there is nobody to help you. No money, no food. No jobs. Nowhere to go. No way out.

This is a description of the lives of many all over the world, yet this simple life that seems so hopeless and hard creates some of the happiest people. They are thankful for when they do have a meal and thankful for a T-shirt that may be used and old, but it is new to them. The mindset is different, their gratitude is real.

Their happiness is infectious. These are the people I have met.

I want to specifically speak of a certain group of folks that I have had the opportunity to spend the most time with many years ago. It changed my perspective on what I was doing with my life. It has stuck with me ever since. I always have hope and I am always optimistic.

I visited Nicaragua 10 years ago. My sister is a missionary down there, so I was able to spend time with her and meet some of the most amazing people.
